DescriptionSAMe (S-adenosyl-L-methionine), is naturally occurring and manufactured within the body. SAMe has been found to be effective in treatment of depression, liver dysfunction, arthritis, fibromyalgia and migraine headaches. Involved in over 40 biochemical reactions in the body. SAMe is essential for the production of glutathione, a powerful antioxidant that protects the body from the damaging effects of free radicals. SAMe improves the binding of neurotransmitters to their receptors sites in the brain. SAMe has been used in Europe in the treatment of cirrhosis and damage caused by alcohol and has been shown to relieve all forms of depression. Several studies have shown that SAMe can be as effective as pharmaceutical antidepressants. Those suffering from manic depression should not take SAMe as SAMe's antidepressant properties may heighten the manic phase.
