Bone is more than a collection of calcium crystals; it's active, living tissue. Healthy bones need a variety of nutrients to preserve adequate mineral mass, maintain strong supporting structures, and promote repair functions.

Obviously, calcium is important-more than 99 percent of the body's calcium is found in the bones and teeth. But calcium alone is not enough. The body needs vitamin D to utilize calcium and phosphorus properly for building strong bones and teeth. Magnesium activates enzymes that help form new calcium crystals.

Vitamin K aids the production of osteocalcin, the supporting structure on which calcium crystallizes in bone. Manganese is needed for bone mineralization and connective tissue synthesis. Studies show zinc, strontium, vitamin B6, vitamin C, silicon, copper, and boron also help form the connective structures in bone.
