Each capsule provides 100 mcg of vitamin K2, which plays an important role in forming blood clotting proteins in the liver, bone mineralizing proteins in bone, and matrix GLA-protein in blood vessels. While most people consume sufficient vitamin K to ensure proper blood clotting, larger amounts are necessary to sustain bone and vessel health, particularly in aging adults. Furthermore, men and women between age 25-30 were found to consume less vitamin K than the RDA.

There are two main forms of vitamin K: K1, found in green leafy vegetables, and K2, manufactured by gut microflora. Several clinical studies have found that K2 has significantly higher bioavailability and bioactivity than K1. Exciting new research shows that by activating matrix GLA-protein, vitamin K2 - but not K1 - inhibits, and may even reverse, arterial calcification. K2 also exerts a more powerful influence on bone-building than K1.
