Asparagus racemosa (Shatavari): Shatavari means, "who possesses a hundred husbands". It is considered an excellent female reproductive tonic in Ayurvedic medicine, however it has also been used for sexual debility in both sexes. Known as a phytoestrogenic herbal, it has been used often in Ayurvedic medicine to support women of menopausal age. It has also been found to function as a diuretic, antispasmotic (muscle relaxer) and to support the relief of menopausal symptoms, including hot flashes. Recent research has shown it to be an antioxidant and an "adaptogenic". Asparagus is also a plant rich in the wonderful antioxidant important to women's health: Vitamin E.

Centella asiatica (Gotu kola): Ayurvedic medicine has used Gotu kola in treating inflammation, varicose veins, fevers and blood disorders. It has often been used to increase the receptive and retentive (cognitive) powers of the mind. Gotu kola also contains essential oils, flavonoids, flavone derivatives including quercetin and kaempferol, sesquiterpenes, stigmasterol, and sitosterol. It has the reputation for calming the mind while also supporting energy levels, somewhat like ginseng's adaptogenic effects.

Cissus quadrangularis (Ashthishrankhala): Known as "Hadjod" in Sanskrit, which means, "bonding bones". CQ is thought to stimulate metabolism and increase uptake of minerals, such as calcium. It is rich in Vitamin C and Beta carotene. In Ayurvedic medicine, it is used often for stomach upset and general weakness.

Terminalia arjuna (Arjuna): The bark powder is thought to possess diuretic actions and it has been used often as a cardiac tonic and an aphrodisiac in Ayurvedic medicine. The bark contains several active constituents, including Terminalia arjuna gallic acid, ethyl gallate, and the flavone luteolin. The bark of Terminalia arjuna is reported to be beneficial in cardiovascular conditions.

Withania somnifera (Ashwaganda):

This wonderful herb is used often to reduce stress, increase libido, support the immune system and as a general tonic. It has been extensively used in Ayurvedic medicine as a rejuvenating tonic to promote stamina and vigor. Activities are similar to Asian Ginseng. It is sometimes referred to as "Indian Ginseng" for that reason. The applicable parts of Ashwagandha are the root and berry. Ashwagandha is thought to have a variety of pharmacological effects including analgesic, antipyretic (fever reducer), sedative, hypotensive, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant effects.

Motherwort:

Orally, motherwort has often been used for cardiac symptoms, neurosis, cardiac insufficiency, fast heart rate or other arrhythmias, and hyperthyroidism. In folk medicine, motherwort is used for treating amenorrhea and flatulence. Motherwort has calming and antispasmodic effects.

Red Clover:

This herb is often used lately for menopausal symptoms and hot flashes, and cyclic breast pain or tenderness (mastalgia). Red clover contains isoflavones, a class of phytoestrogens, which are structurally similar to those of estrogens. The principal isoflavones found in red clover are biochanin A and formononetin. When ingested, biochanin A and formononetin are metabolized to the isoflavones genistein and daidzein, respectively. Red clover isoflavone constituents might act as selective estrogen-receptor modulators (SERMs), although genistein seems to act as a weak estrogen agonist. Osteoporosis in postmenopausal women is related to declining estrogen levels. Red clover is thought to be beneficial for preventing osteoporosis due to its weak estrogenic effects. The isoflavone genistein also appears to directly inhibit osteoclast activity.

Hawthorn:

Orally, hawthorn has been used for cardiovascular conditions, coronary circulation problems, and arrhythmias. Hawthorn is also used as a sedative, antispasmotic, astringent, and diuretic.

It is also used for gastrointestinal conditions such as indigestion, enteritis, epigastric distension, diarrhea, and abdominal pain.

Milk thistle:

This important herb is used as a liver protectant. The milk thistle plant above ground parts seem to have some estrogenic activity. A milk thistle plant extract appears to enhance estradiol binding to estrogen receptors, induce transcription activity in estrogen-responsive cells, and enhance estradiol-induced transcription activity in estrogen-responsive cells.

Vitamin B-6:

Orally, pyridoxine is used most commonly for relieving water retention and cramping. Pyridoxine is also used orally for supporting immunity, decreasing night leg cramps, and relieving arthritis, and allergy symptoms.
