Acetyl-L-Carnitine is the ester form of L-Carnitine; a naturally occurring amino acid metabolized from Lysine and Methionine and used extensively by the brain and nervous system. There is a significant amount of research on L-Carnitine’s role in cardiac and skeletal muscle function and in its role in fat metabolism/loss. N-Acetyl- L-Carnitine’s research has focused mainly on its role in brain and nervous system function with regard to the aging process.
